More and more regulations are beginning to impact on websites. Compliance with these regulations is increasingly important. Accessibility regulations and data potection regulations challenge web design and website maintenance in the form of accessibility policies and privacy policies. Accessibility Guidelines
All websites should be fully accessible to those using assistive technologies. This is a dream which is not yet a reality but the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) is driving efforts to realise this dream. The most relevant ducument published by W3C is the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines WCAG 2.1 AA published in 2018. Governments, organisations and companies are increasingly adopting these guidelines in the design and maintenance of their websites. The frequency of guideline updates demonstrates the continual pressure on websites to comply.

W3C publish 'success criteria' for every guideline that web designers should strive to meet. Since October 2020 Troutly Internet has offered customers the option of an accessible website compliant with WCAG 2.1 AA.

In the early days of the World Wide Web there was virtually no control on the privacy of data. More than 20 years later following many high profile cases of privacy abuse regulators are finally catching up. Businesses now need to ensure their websites comply with regulations imposed by countries in which they function. The most recent relevant regulation applicable to websites functioning in the UK is the General Data Protection Regulation published by the EU.
